About Dosteon
I started thinking seriously about food supply chains the same way most people do, from the outside.
That changed during COVID-19.
As global supply chains fractured, it became impossible to ignore how fragile the systems feeding people really were. Disruptions didn’t just affect prices or convenience; they threatened access to nutrition, livelihoods, and basic food security, especially in places already operating on thin margins.
What struck me most was how quickly risk traveled downward.
When supply chains broke, the most prominent players adapted.
Small restaurants, suppliers, and everyday consumers absorbed the shock.
That experience stayed with me.
Since then, I’ve spent time listening to restaurant owners, kitchen staff, and food suppliers talk about their day-to-day reality. The same challenges keep coming up: inventory uncertainty, unreliable supply, food waste, and limited visibility across operations.
What I found wasn’t poor judgment. It was people working incredibly hard inside food systems that weren’t designed for resilience.
Across Africa, many restaurants and suppliers operate within fragmented and centralized food supply chains. Information is incomplete. Decisions are made with limited context. And when disruptions happen, whether global or local, smaller operators carry most of the burden.
That’s the problem Dosteon exists to address.
Dosteon is being built to support more resilient, transparent, and adaptive food supply chains, starting with restaurants and suppliers in emerging markets.
Our focus is simple: reduce operational uncertainty, strengthen decision-making, and help food businesses withstand shocks without sacrificing access or nutrition.
This publication is where that thinking lives.
Here, I write about:
real challenges inside restaurant and supplier operations
how supply chain disruptions affect food availability and nutrition
why food waste, stockouts, and volatility are system-level problems
and what we’re learning as we build Dosteon, without turning the work into a playbook
If you run a restaurant, supply food, build systems, or care about the future of food security in Africa, this space is for you.
I don’t believe the future of food is louder platforms or bigger intermediaries.
I believe it’s smarter, more resilient systems, built quietly, grounded in reality, and designed to protect access to food when it matters most.
This is the thinking behind Dosteon.
